But we really NEEDED those earplugs at other nights, and still woke up at times to various revellers who wanted to belt out their favorite club hit or argue very loudly with ther friend(s) about something or another. one night (and boy, did our 30-something year old bodies pay for it). We actually managed to hang in there until 4:30 a.m. If you were one of those partying until the early morning hours (really, the morning, not the night), then it's no biggie.

The biggest pro and the biggest con of this location was that you were righ smack dab in the middle of the action in Cheuca.

The room was quaint, and we had free internet access in the small foyer. Her co-worker Alex helped my friend with her huge suitcase up the 3 flights of stairs with a smile on his face, and he was always available when we needed something. The owner Elisabeth is a very sweet Spaniard who speaks English 10 times better than we spoke Spanish. The hostel is in a great old building with slanted, soft wooded stairs. The hostel is a mere 5 minutes away from the Chueca Metro stop. We reserved a room at Casa Chueca ( ), which is located in the gay district of Madrid (or at least that was how it has been portrayed). Granted, were stayed within a very small area of the city, but still managed to enjoy the heck out of ourselves. We'd just run ourselves ragged in Barcelona, and did not know what to expect from Madrid except what we'd read. We were in Madrid for the last 3 days of our trip. I just returned from a short week in Spain with a girlfriend.
